Ruth Pennel and Winnifred Merril are two girls living in Revolutionary War Pennsylvania. They are both Patriots. For some time the city had been ruled by Howe and the British army. Ruth's father was with Washington at Valley Forge, and the little girls were passionate supporters of the American cause, and admirers of the gallant young Frenchman, the Marquis de Lafayette. Once Ruth overhears a British soldier, and now she is able to help the Patriot army. This is a wonderful story about children
