Like on her TV show, Rachel Maddow presents historical facts as a storyteller and uncloaks trends that but for her might well go by unnoticed . Rachel tells the story of how oil and natural gas have corrupted people and politics in the United States and internationally. Each chapter tells a story, often with a great deal of humor, that ends in shock because what she is saying is true. It is a must read for anyone interested in current Affairs.

Best book I’ve read all year!
An eye-openi
ng revelation into the interplay of power and politics in the energy sector. Leave it to Rachel Maddox, “The Great Explainer” to weave all the strands together in this tapestry to reveal a picture of corruption on a global scale that will leave you cringing in Orwellian horror.

Rachel approaches her book just like she does her show. She artfully drops breadcrumbs that lead you to her conclusion regarding the oil and gas industry and what's really motivating Russia (Putin). Sometimes the sheer volume of detail is hard to slog through. However, in the last chapter she ties it all together with a big bow and hits it out of the park!!!

An in depth reportage of the power and gory of the world wide petroleum industry. It’s been frighteningly powerful and reckless with earth threatening results. Maddow does her usual thorough job of laying it out in an engaging way. This book might keep you up at night. It should if we are to save ourselves. Petro-terrorists have ruled for years. We must turn the tables soon. Maddow shows how they’ve done it and what we must do to right the wrongs of state sponsored environmental and social degradation. In a word, Vote! Democracy may be our only hope. An excellent if disturbing read.
